Kenny and Burton seek to broker rent deal

The Taoiseach and Tánaiste are to intensify their involvement in the Government's housing plan in a bid to defuse the growing Coalition crisis.
A plan to beef up the powers of the watchdog for tenants, the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB), is now being seen as the best compromise - even though it doesn't meet the demands of embattled Environment Minister Alan Kelly.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny says he hopes to reach a compromise in time for next week's Cabinet meeting. But a source close to the minister said: "Kelly's position hasn't changed."
The under-fire Environment Minister was admonished by Mr Kenny yesterday for describing elements within Fine Gael as "cowardly".
