AN intruder was arrested after gaining unauthorised access to Government Buildings less than 36 hours after the Paris atrocities, Independent.ie can reveal.

The man was detained in the early hours of Sunday morning after a security alert was issued.

An on-duty garda detained the individual who has since been charged for trespassing. He is currently on bail and is due to appear in court next month to face charges.

The man was detained in the courtyard of Government Buildings, located off Merrion Street.

The vicinity is manned by garda security round-the-clock.

Spokespeople for both the Government and An Garda Síochána confirmed the incident.
