Incoming TD Danny Healy Rae paid an emotional tribute to his father Jackie as he began his first day in Leinster House.
During an interview with Sile Seoige on Oireachtas TV, the Kerry Independent said that he and his brother Michael must work hard to keep his father's legacy alive.
"I suppose the only regret I have is that Jackie Rae is not around. He's somewhere looking down on us and I know he'd be very proud," he said.
"The onus is on myself and Michael to do our best for the people of Kerry in whatever way we can."
Jackie died at the age of 83 in December 2014 after battling a long illness.
Michael Healy Rae (49) was elected on the first count in Kerry, with his older brother elected on the second count.
Danny's seat on Kerry County Council is set to be taken over by his daughter Maura.
