The move was another example of Sinn Féin's attempt to use the 1916 commemorations to justify the Provos campaign of terror.

The Marita Ann was intercepted off the Kerry coast by the Naval Service on September 29, 1984, and seven tonnes of arms were seized.

Martin Ferris was among those arrested and jailed for 10 years.
