FORMER minister John Perry says he is certain he will be added to the Fine Gael General Election ticket despite failing to get through his selection convention.
Mr Perry failed to get selected for the newly formed Sligo/North Leitrim constituency after losing out to sitting Fine Gael TD Tony McLoughlin and former Leitrim TD Gerry Reynolds.
After the shock vote, senior Fine Gael sources indicated Mr Perry was unlikely to be added to ticket despite assurances from Taoiseach Enda Kenny that all sitting TDs would be allowed contest the election.
Mr Kenny also refused to say if the former minister would be added when asked before the Fine Gael presidential dinner on Saturday night.
However, today, a defiant Mr Perry has insisted the party will add him to ticket before next year’s election.
“I will assure you I will be added. I would be in no doubt about that all,” Mr Perry told Independent.ie.
Mr Perry also said he was “disappointed” that 50 delegates from his support base in Tubberycurry were not allowed vote at the selection convention last Friday.
