Within minutes of the counting of votes getting underway, the new Labour leader will be apparent.

The official count begins at 12:30pm in the Mansion House in Dublin city centre.

Ballot boxes will be opened and the count on the party leader race will get underway.

In keeping with the transparent way the leadership election has been conducted, the party is going to allow tallies to be taken.

As a result, the winners of the leader and deputy leader contests will become apparent quite quickly.

After 3pm, the results of the leadership election will be announced by the Returning Officer, Richard Humphreys.

Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore and both candidates, Joan Burton and Alex White, will make a speech.

The results of the deputy leadership election will be announced sometime around 5:30pm.

Ahead of today’s deadline of 12 noon for postal ballots to arrive, 2,641 votes had arrived in to the Returning Officers, last night.
