Three generations of Fianna Fáil leaders - two of them former Taoisigh - got together last night for the launch of a new book about Dr Douglas Hyde, Ireland's first president.

Bertie Ahern, Brian Cowen and Micheál Martin were together under the one roof at Hodges Figgis bookshop, on Dublin's Dawson Street.

The book, 'Forgotten Patriot - Douglas Hyde and the Foundation of the Irish Presidency', was written by academic Brian Murphy, a historian at DIT and former advisor and speech writer for Bertie Ahern.

And the former Taoiseach told the Irish Independent he was very proud of his former staff member.

"He had started this book before he came into me in '95 or '96 and then he kept on researching right throughout the period," he said.

"He's done a wonderful job on it," he added.

The book was officially launched by RTÉ broadcaster and author, David McCullagh, in front of a packed audience.
