Taoiseach Enda Kenny is expected to march in the New York St Patrick's Day parade.
Mayor of New York Bill de Blasio is boycotting the parade due to the organisers refusal to allow gay groups to display banners.
But Mr Kenny said he will be in the Big Apple and will be marching.
"It is my intention to be there in New York," he said.
Mr Kenny did not express a view on Mr de Blasio's reservations about the parade.
"You should ask the Mayor that question. I don't speak for the Mayor," he said.
Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore said gay rights groups had encouraged the Government to participate in the parade.
It is not yet clear if Mr Kenny will be in Boston or New York on St Patrick's Day.
