It can be lonely being the leader, but Taoiseach Enda Kenny wasn’t short of company on his Ring of Kerry bike race yesterday.

Minister Jimmy Deenihan and Deputy Aine Collins joined the Taoiseach at the start of the 112 mile (180km), gruelling but spectacular cycle.

It seems Enda is living up to the old wisdom about how a healthy body builds a healthy mind. The state of Mr Kenny’s political health may, alas, be a different matter.

Kerry’s version of the Tour de France enjoyed magnificent weather yesterday, and the Taoiseach was full of smiles when obliging his public by posing for selfies.
