Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has said she is not surprised the Irish tricolour featured in a disturbing propaganda video purportedly released by Islamic State (Isil).

Ms Fitzgerald said the terror group is intent on targeting Western Europe - and Ireland is not immune from the threat.

On Wednesday, Isil published a short video entitled 'Coalition of Devils' as part of its ongoing propaganda campaign. Yesterday, Ms Fitzgerald insisted our threat levels remain the same. "It isn't surprising, as I've said all along, that democratic countries feature in Isis propaganda. Isis thrives on propaganda and radicalising young people by various means. So, I have said all along that Ireland is not immune from any threat. But the evidence we have to date is that an attack is possible but not likely," she said.

Defence Minister Simon Coveney reiterated Ms Fitzgerald's claim the Government was not surprised.
