Former Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore considered bringing down the Coalition on three separate occasions during the duration of the Government.

Mr Gilmore said the Coalition was "close to the edge" of collapse over Budget negotiations in 2012, the debate over Anglo Irish Bank promissory note, and at the height of the Garda scandals last year.

Speaking at the launch of his explosive memoir 'Inside the Room', Mr Gilmore said the Cabinet row over the payment of the promissory note was the "closest" he came to pulling out of Government.

However, he said that he did not believe his book would damage the Labour Party as it prepares it go to the polls in the general election.
