Clare Daly calls for Attorney General advice to be published after fatal foetal abnormality bill defeated
Independent TD Clare Daly has accused the Government of abdicating its responsiblity to families suffering with fatal foetal abnormalities.
In a harsh rebuff to those that voted against her amendment on abortion this evening, she said the Government was expressing a “callous indifference to Irish families.”
“What we’ve seen today is utter cowardice from the Government and opposition benches. What did any of them stand for election for if they don’t want to make a difference and help people.”

Speaking on RTE’s Drivetime, Deputy Daly said the Government should publish the advice from the Attorney General and make it a matter for Dail record.
“Their decision to oppose this bill was based on the legal advice of one person. A person that the Supreme Court already ruled was wrong on the children’s referendum.”
“It is not good enough to say it’s a constitution issue. Forty-three legal experts disagree, as does a former Attorney General. We need to know what this advice was and when it was sought.”
While Ms Daly said she believes the issue will come back around soon, she said she “couldn’t see this Government bringing it forward”.
