A Cabinet meeting scheduled for tomorrow has been moved forward to 2pm today, with the impending garda strikes expected to top the agenda.

Sources told Independent.ie that Taoiseach Enda Kenny decided to hold a full meeting of ministers today as the cancellation of Dáil holidays combined with the planned all-island forum on Brexit would limit time tomorrow.

Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald has also pulled out of a series of events she was scheduled to attend in London today. She will update the Cabinet on the deal rejected by the GRA last night and the plan for the days ahead.

A statement from the Government on its contingencies for dealing with the Friday’s withdrawal of services by 12,500 gardaí is expected to be issued after the meeting.
