A GOVERNMENT TD has been suspended from the Dail after a heated row with the Ceann Comhairle.

The Coalition voted to suspend Labour Party TD Michael McNamara from the Dail after he refused to take his seat following a disagreement in the chamber with Ceann Comhairle Sean Barrett.

The Clare TD was raising concerns about the Government guillotining legislation and reducing debate time on issues before they become law.

He complained that guillotining legislation goes against what deputies were elected to do in Leinster House.

Mr Barrett told the deputy he was out of ordered him and called on him to take his seat before insisting he leave the chamber. Mr McNamara refused to leave and a vote was called to suspend him.

The Government then voted to expel their own TD from the chamber.
