A TD has been told he is barred from questioning the Taoiseach until he apologises for his “absurd” behaviour.
A bizarre row erupted on Thursday after Ceann Comhairle Séan Barrett refused to accept a contribution from Independent TD Peter Mathews.
During the ‘Order of Business’, Mr Mathews attempted to pose a question to Taoiseach Enda Kenny on the issue of the new bankruptcy laws.
But Mr Barrett refused to allow Mr Mathews to speak in a move that sparked heated exchanges.
Mr Mathews claimed that as a elected member of the house, he was being intentionally ignored.
The Ceann Comhairle said that Mr Mathews has consistently disobeyed the chair and that he will not allow him to speak until he apologises to the House.
“Sit down or you’re taking another walk,” Mr Barrett said. Mr Mathews reacted angrily, saying: “this is absurd.”
Mr Barrett replied: “Your behaviour is absurd.”
