All hands on deck in the Burton camp as team takes to phones

LABOUR'S Joan Burton is to take to the phones in the coming days in order to shore up last-minute votes in her party leadership bid.
Ms Burton is the overwhelming favourite to succeed outgoing Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore, with the result due on Friday. Ms Burton and her team are to concentrate on a campaign of personalised phone calls in the coming days to members across the country.
Her rival, Alex White, has failed to land any significant blows on Ms Burton during the four-week campaign. It has emerged that contact has already taken place between her officials and senior advisers in Taoiseach Enda Kenny's office as to what happens once the race is over.
Notwithstanding the perception that she is the leader-in-waiting, Ms Burton and her team are anxious to combat any possible complacency.
"An unofficial campaign team around Joan will be hitting the phones to as many members as possible with her doing some calls herself," one source told the Irish Independent.
Ms Burton's team have already contacted every member in the country, with a group of close friends and supporters ringing over the last four weeks.
It is also clear that Ms Burton and her team would favour a speedy reshuffle of ministers, but there is some suggestion this weekend that Mr Kenny may not wish to rush matters.
