€1 wine tax will top up State coffers to the tune of €70m

EVERY little tax increase may hurt, but the €1 tax on the bottle of wine imposed by Finance Minister Michael Noonan in last year's budget certainly won't leave the Exchequer suffering from a hangover.
A Dail question from Fine Gael TD for Kerry Brendan Griffin has revealed that €45m has been raised by the tax in the first eight months of this year and that it will raise €70m in a full year.
