Former senior government politicians and local people attended the removal yesterday of Ann Lenihan - wife of the late former Tánaiste Brian Lenihan Snr.
At the ceremony in Castleknock, Dublin, were former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, current Fianna Fáil TDs Jack Chambers, Billy Kelleher and Robert Troy, and former ministers Rory O'Hanlon and Pat Carey. Others included former Green Party leader John Gormley, former superintendent at Leinster House Eamon O'Donoghue, and author Brian Murphy.
Earlier, Mrs Lenihan lay in repose at the Mater Private Hospital and a large attendance of mourners paid their respects, including friends and neighbours.
After mass in Our Lady Mother of the Church at noon today, Mrs Lenihan will be laid to rest in her native Athlone, Co Westmeath, alongside her late husband, Brian, and their son Mark, who died aged six.
Her son Brian Lenihan Jnr served as finance minister before his death in 2011.
