A man found injured behind a shopping centre in Bangor has died.

The 28-year-old was discovered at the rear of the Flagship Centre on Bingham Street at around 9.30am on Sunday.

He was taken to hospital but later died.

Police said it is not yet known how the man sustained the fatal injuries.

Officers have appealed to anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

North Down Assembly member Alex Easton said the death was a real tragedy.

"I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear of this man's death in the Bingham Street area," said the DUP representative.

"My thoughts and condolences go to his family.

"Coming in the lead up to Christmas will make it all the more difficult for his loved ones. This is a real tragedy."
