Please tell us what happened to our son, plead parents

Barry Duggan

IT'S been 10 years since their son went missing, but the pain and turmoil for the parents of Gussie Shanahan remains.

The 20-year-old from Limerick was last seen at a laneway by St Joseph's Church in the city on the night of February 11, 2000.

Despite a major garda investigation and numerous appeals for assistance from Aengus 'Gussie' Shanahan's family, his body has never been found -- and no light shed on his disappearance.

Today, his distraught parents, Robert and Nancy, are asking for help to locate their youngest son's whereabouts. Flyers are being distributed in Limerick this week.

"I can't move on. My life has been a daily torment for the past 10 years. I believe he may have come to harm and I wonder did he suffer. Was he tortured?" Nancy said.

"After 10 years of not knowing, I am sure I could say 'I forgive you' to someone who may have harmed my son. Just please tell me where he is. Tell me what happened to him."

Retired bank worker Robert Shanahan said Gussie was on the way to 'Temple of Sound' nightclub in Catherine Street, Limerick after leaving Coopers' pub on the night he disappeared.
