Play moved to new venue after protest
THE Abbey Theatre in Dublin has been forced to relocate a play about child abuse to a different venue for one night following a protest by an abuse survivor against the lack of disability facilities at its basement venue, The Peacock, writes Colin Murphy.
'No Escape' is running at the Peacock until Saturday week, April 24. But next Tuesday, for one night only, it will be staged instead at the nearby Liberty Hall theatre.
Paddy Doyle, a long-time campaigner on abuse and disability issues, who is wheelchair-bound, said he was "incensed" that he was "prevented" from seeing the play, which is based on the final report of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse.
