Pipe bomb explodes at Dublin home

A pipe bomb has exploded under a car in the driveway of a west Dublin home.

Army bomb experts were called to the scene at Rossmore Drive, Ballyfermot, shortly after the explosion at around 2am today.

Gardai said the improvised device caused extensive damage to the car but no one was injured in the incident.

The scene was sealed off and the army bomb disposal team called out. The area was declared safe at 7am.

In a separate incident, a grenade launcher and ammunition were discovered in a field off Railway Road in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim.

The improvised launcher, said to be in poor condition, and two .22 rounds of ammunition were made safe by the Army and handed over to gardai last night.

A small quantity of black powder and a detonator also found at the scene were removed for further analysis.
