Pioneering students' day of joy at Trinity

Published 09/11/2012 | 05:00

A GROUP of trailblazing students has graduated from Trinity College. The 17 were presented with Certificates in Contemporary Living from a ground-breaking course for people with intellectual disabilities.

One of the students relocated from Barcelona to take part in the course, while another came here from Brussels.

Of the group, a third of the new graduates have gone on to find jobs while another third have chosen to continue their studies.

The two-year TCD course, run by the National Institute for Intellectual Disability, was the first full-time course of its kind in the Irish university sector.

The certificate supports students as they make the transition towards independence, lifelong learning and employment.
