An elderly woman in her 90s suffered these horrific head injuries after a robbery in east Belfast.

The pensioner was struck on the head with a stick and had her handbag stolen in Aston Gardens on the Upper Newtownards Road on Monday 25 April at around 4pm.

She was taken to hospital for treatment.

The attacker was aged around 60 to 65 years old, of thin build with a full face, around 5’10 or 5'11" tall and was wearing a fawn or beige flat cap with a peak and a khaki or grey overcoat worn over a suit. He spoke with a Belfast accent.

Detective Inspector Nigel Snoddy said: "I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact detectives in Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number 101 or via the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
