Pianist hits right notes for top gong

PIANIST Fiachra Garvey from Dublin last night became the National Concert Halls Rising Star of 2011.

He preformed his Rising Star solo recital at the concert hall playing Debussy, Stravinsky, Brahms, and Schumann.

Mr Garvey has been playing piano since he was six years old and is currently studying at the Royal Irish Academy of Music where he is completing a BA in Music Performance.

The musician has already won several awards at Feis Ceoil, RIAM Festival, Newpark Festival, and Feis Arklow and is also the winner of the Charles J Brennan Prize for best-placed Irish competitor at the 2009 Dublin International Piano Competition.

He has travelled all over the world performing in Boston, Washington DC, New York and at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

At home Mr Garvey has appeared with the Dublin Youth Symphony Orchestra, Hibernian Orchestra, RIAM Intermediate Orchestra and the RIAM Symphony Orchestra.
