Crime-scene photos from the hotel room where Michaela McAreavey was killed have been published in a local Sunday newspaper in Mauritius.

According to reports on RTE, the 12 black and white photographs, which include images of the victim’s body, are in today’s edition of the Mauritian ‘Sunday Times’.

Under the headline ‘Exclusive’, the front page of the paper features a picture of Michaela after her death, while inside there are close-up images of her injuries as well as photos of the hotel room and the bath where her body was found.

The Harte and McAreavey families have issued a statement condemning the publication.

A spokesperson for the families said: “As the families struggle to come with the result from the trial, this action by the newspaper is not only insensitive to their grief but marks another low in the treatment of John, the two families and the dignity of Michaela.”

Michaela McAreavey was killed while on honeymoon with her husband John at the Legends Hotel in Mauritius in January of last year.

Earlier this week, two men who worked at the hotel were cleared of her murder following an eight-week trial.
