Phelan appointed Investigations Editor

Shane Phelan has been appointed Investigations Editor with the Irish Independent.

Shane joined the newspaper in 2008 and previously held the role of investigative correspondent. He was recently centrally involved in the paper's publication of the WikiLeaks Ireland Cables.

A native of Ballybunion, Co Kerry, he previously worked with the 'Evening Echo', the 'Irish Daily Star' and the 'Irish Daily Mail', where he held the position of crime correspondent.

He is a former ESB Young Journalist of the Year and holds a Masters in Journalism and a BA in Political Science and Sociology from NUI, Galway.
