HEALTHCARE Giant Bausch and Lomb yesterday confirmed that it will lay off 48 temporary workers. The company's contact lens manufacturing plant in Waterford employs 1,100 people.
A spokesman said the workers would be "laid off over the coming weeks due to a rebalancing of manufacturing needs in the plant".
The news came one day after 250 jobs were announced by Jobs Minister Richard Bruton. The Eishtec call centre at Cleaboy, on the outskirts of the city, will see the workforce expand by 150. And 100 more jobs will be created at the firm's Wexford site.
