Pfizer forced to halt production after river spill
A pharmaceutical firm revealed yesterday it had to destroy production of its baby-powder formula and adult nutritional products over concerns about the water supply after an oil spill in a river.
The oil was discovered leaking from an unidentified commercial property into the River Deel in west Limerick last Wednesday.
Water supplies in large parts of the county have been shut off intermittently ever since.
The Pfizer plant in Askeaton said it had to cease all production last Thursday for three days.
