Petition for Czech killer to stay here
THE family of Sharon Coughlan has stepped up their campaign to prevent her killer from serving the rest of his murder sentence in a Czech jail, writes Fergus Black.
Relatives delivered a petition to Justice Minister Alan Shatter in a bid to get him to reverse his decision to repatriate David Brozovsky.
Brozovsky was sentenced to life in prison in 2008 after he pleaded guilty to the murder of Ms Coughlan near her home in Great Water Street, Longford, in 2007. He also was given a 15 year sentence for rape.
Mr Shatter, who has approved Brozovsky's transfer, says the Czech authorities have given assurances that he will continue to have his sentence of life imprisonment enforced and that he will serve at least 20 years of that.
