The HSE is encouraging people to keep active in the new year. The State's health agency recommends that all adults should aim to be active for at least 30 minutes a day, five days of the week.
Yvonne Gilsenan, physical activity co-ordinator with the HSE says, "You know you are working at a moderate and beneficial pace if your breathing is harder than normal and your body temperature increases. You should be able to carry out a conversation while working at this moderate pace, but you will notice your breathing rate has increased because your heart is beating faster than normal."
Children and young people should be active for at least 60 minutes every day. Children are naturally active, so any amount of physical activity counts towards their 60 minutes.
Being physically active is one of the most important steps you can take to improve your health, whatever your age or ability. The Get Ireland Active website www.get irelandactive.ie is a great place to start.
