A PENSIONER has been left in critical condition after he was stabbed in his home.
Desmond Garland (77), from the Coolock area of Dublin, was stabbed a number of times in his neck and chest. He was rushed from his flat in the Lismeen Grove estate to nearby Beaumont Hospital, where he was fighting for his life last night.
Mr Garland has been described locally as a "quiet, unassuming man".
A Garda spokesman said that he was stabbed at about 10pm on Saturday night and he was taken to hospital in a critical condition. Gardai are understood to be following a definite line of inquiry but the spokesman said, "We have made no arrests at this stage".
Mr Garland's condition was last night said to be "serious".
