AN 84-year-old woman has been badly shaken after her handbag was stolen from her as she visited her husband's grave.

The shocking incident happened at Ratoath graveyard, Co Meath, in broad daylight, last weekend.

The theft has been condemned by Cllr Nick Killian who said, “I was appalled to learn of the robbery of this elderly lady in Ratoath Graveyard while she was visiting her husband’s grave.”

Cllr Killian said, “This once again highlights that Ratoath, with a population of 12,000 residents, does not have its own Garda station. We need a better on the ground police service in Ratoath than we have at present.”

A spokesperson for Ashbourne gardai confirmed that a woman had her bag snatched from her at the graveyard last Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm.

Two men were involved.  One was wearing a blue jacket and was a passenger in a car or van driven by the other man.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ashbourne garda station on 018010600.
