Pedestrian killed crossing the road

A PEDESTRIAN was killed yesterday as he crossed a main road.

The 30-year-old man was knocked down by a truck at Newtwopothouse in Co Cork at around 4pm. The driver of the truck is understood to be a man from Cork in his twenties.

130kmh winds to batter country

GUSTS of up to 130kmh are set to batter parts of the country today. Met Eireann warned stormy conditions will develop across the country.

Motorists and road users are advised to take extra care as the combination of very strong winds and snow or sleet showers will create hazardous driving conditions.

Singer 'too ill' to appear in court

FOLK singer Dolores Keane was too ill to come to court yesterday to face a charge of drink driving last year.

Ms Keane (58), from Caherlistrane, Tuam, Co Galway, is charged with drunken driving on November 19, 2010. Judge Fahy adjourned the matter to next Monday, December 19.
