A male pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a van in the early hours of this morning at around 5am.

Gardai in Tullow, Co. Carlow are investigating the fatal accident that occurred on the Tullow to Ballon Road in the townland of Ardristan, Tullow this morning.

The pedestrian, believed to be in his mid 20s, was killed when he was struck by the van

The man is also described as being over six foot tall, well built and has short red hair.

His body has been removed to Waterford Regional Hospital.

The van driver was uninjured in the accident.

The road is currently closed as Garda Forensic Collision investigators are at scene and local diversions are in place.
