Q When do I have to pay the property tax for 2014?
A If you want to pay by cheque or postal order, you have to send it in with the paper form by November 7. The money will be deducted immediately.
Q What about paying with my debit or credit card?
A If you want to pay by debit or credit card, you have to notify the Revenue online by November 27. This payment will be deducted immediately. Revenue says this is the nature of the banking and credit card systems.
Q I'm short of cash. How do I avoid paying the property tax before Christmas?
A You could opt to make a lump sum payment before January 1 at your local post office or another 'payment service provider' in shops, such as TaxPay, Payzone and Omnivend. You can also tell Revenue that you want to pay by monthly direct debit or by regular deductions from your salary, pension, social welfare payment or single farm payment. You have to give the instruction online by November 27 but the payment will only be taken from January 15 onwards. It will then be deducted on the 15th of every month.
Q What is the last possible date for paying the property tax in full for 2014?
A You can set up a special direct debit so that the money will be taken from your bank account by Revenue on March 21 2014. Again, you have to tell the Revenue about this by November 27.
