A FIANNA Fail TD feels it is not "fair" that new public servants must work with better-paid colleagues in the same job - although his government cut their wages by 10pc.
Willie O'Dea made the comments during a debate on the current Government's bid to reduce the public sector payroll by €1bn.
He said he thought it was a "very unfair approach" that staff like nurses and teachers were starting on lower salaries than previous entrants, and this was "undermining" Croke Park talks.
"Some of the stuff that's going on, in particular in relation to new people coming in, is very unfair," he added. However, his party in government drastically cut all new state workers' earnings with a 10pc pay reduction in 2010.
