Two men were rescued from a cliff-side after they got into difficulty swimming

The pair had been swimming at Balscaden, near Howth Head, when they began to struggle in the strong current.

They managed to make it to nearby rocks and attempted to climb the cliffs before catching the attention of a passing tourist who alerted the emergency services.

Fifteen members of the Irish Coast Guard Cliff Rescue team participated in the rescue operation, winching them to safety, which brought their ordeal to an end.

Nobody was injured in the incident.
