'Oxbridge' no match for local teams in regatta
HISTORIC rowing rivals Oxford and Cambridge have taken part in the world's oldest traditional regatta in Killarney.
The famous boat clubs joined the six local teams on Lough Lein for the event, now in its 228th year.
However, they couldn't match their Kerry counterparts on the day, with the locals emerging victorious at the annual regatta.
Muckross Rowing Club won the race while Fossa came in second, followed by Cambridge in third place.
Declan Murphy from Failte Ireland, which helped organise the regatta as part of The Gathering, said: "It is a magnificent event, tying in the history, heritage, culture and tradition of rowing and tourism which has such a long association with Killarney."
