Suzanne Gibbons says she has been left with no choice because the Coastguard has informed her it doesn't come to the rescue of animals.

The dog fell from the cliffs at Valentia Island in Co Kerry on Friday and since then has been heard crying though locals have not been able to see it.

"They can hear him crying but can't find him but they tried yesterday," a distraught Ms Gibbons told Independent.ie.

She has also appealed to anyone with rock climbing or search and rescue experience help in her bid to save the dog.

"I need as many people as possible to help and I really need help because any search and rescue organisation won't help me," she added.
