CONSUMERS are collectively overspending €290m on their energy bills, new research shows.
Just one in seven households have changed energy supplier in the last year to get a better deal.
This means large numbers of families are missing out on average savings of €257 each by failing to switch to a cheaper deal, price comparison site Bonkers.ie has calculated.
Last Friday Airtricity told its 380,000 domestic electricity customers it was pushing up prices from next month.
Now Electric Ireland and Bord Gais are expected to increase their electricity prices too. Bonkers.ie said the average family with both gas and electricity would now be facing annual bills of €2,177 – a third higher than they were paying just two years ago.
