A total of 43 new recruits began work yesterday when a new Tesco store opened in Roscrea in Tipperary.

And SolanoTech has begun hiring 25 engineers to work in its software design and development division in Athlone, Co Westmeath.

The Tesco jobs were created as a new store opened to replace one that shut its doors in the town last weekend.

As well as the 43 new staff, another 44 employees from the old store have transferred to work in the new store.

Meanwhile, the organisers of recruitment fair 'Career Zoo' have promised that more than 2,000 jobs will be on offer for graduates in Dublin next month.
