O'Sullivan to launch record-breaking race
OLYMPIC heroine Sonia O'Sullivan will launch the Cork marathon on Monday with 10,000 runners set to take part.
The fourth annual Cork marathon has witnessed a 10pc increase in participants and race officials believe the event is on course to shatter all records.
It is expected to raise €3m for a range of Irish charities, with the 'official' designated marathon charity this year being the Irish Cancer Society.
Gardai have warned motorists that major traffic restrictions will be in place around Cork city from 4am on Monday. Cork's main shopping route -- St Patrick's Street -- will be closed to traffic for the day, while contra-flow operations will also be in place in both the Jack Lynch tunnel and the South Link dual-carriageway.
Gardai have advised those who want to watch the race to use the designated park-and-ride bus services for city centre access.
