Organiser plans more child pageants
THE organiser behind a contentious American-style child beauty pageant plans to turn it into an annual event in Ireland, after strong interest in their first show here.
The Texas-based Universal Royalty Beauty Pageant will see babies, toddlers and teens compete in formal wear, theme wear and also show off their talents on September 21 at an unidentified location.
Organisers will not disclose the venue to the general public after a hotel earlier this year pulled out of hosting the event.
Organiser and businesswoman Annette Hill said she found it difficult to understand the "big interest" and concerns over sexualising young children that were expressed by some over the competition.
