Opposition TDs must vote on bailout exit
THE Government is going to force opposition TDs to vote on whether they support the country's clean exit from the bailout.
A vote will be held in the Dail this evening.
Finance Minister Michael Noonan said he was "delighted" to give TD on all sides of the House the opportunity to now vote to exit the EU – IMF Programme of Financial Support. "Voting in favour of exiting the Programme shows that we have the confidence to take control of the decisions that will determine our future as a State," he said.
“The Government’s decision to exit the EU-IMF programme of Financial Support in December without applying for a precautionary credit line is the right decision for Ireland and now is the right time to make that decision," he added.
Fianna Fáil finance spokesman Michael Noonan said the vote was not on exiting the bailout and the question was what was if the Government made the right decision on not taking up an overdraft facility.
