On-the-run rapist from Northern Irish police found in Dublin

A RAPIST on the run from police in Northern Ireland has been found in Dublin.

Edward Connors, 19, was arrested in the Ballyfermot area of the city after failing to turn up at a court hearing in Belfast.

He was detained for failing to notify gardai of his whereabouts under sex offenders laws after entering the Republic.

Connors was just 15 when he raped an American tourist in Colin Glen forest in west Belfast four years ago.

Afterwards he fled to Dublin but later gave himself up.

He was jailed for eight years.

An arrest warrant was issued for his arrest last week.

He had been due at Belfast Magistrates' Court to face a charge of breaching one of his probation conditions by failing to complete an individual programme of work to address his sexual offending.

He is due to appear before the Dublin District Court charged under section 12 of the Sex Offenders Act.

Under the law he had seven days to notify gardai that he entered the jurisdiction and give a permanent address.
