Only US congressman with an Irish parent is honoured in Dublin
The only member of the US House of Representatives with an Irish-born parent was the guest of honour at a business leaders' lunch in Dublin yesterday.
Congressman Brendan Boyle, from Pennsylvania, is visiting Ireland on a number of personal engagements.
Mr Boyle (38) is the son of Frank Boyle, an emigrant from Glencolmcille in the Donegal Gaeltacht area, and was elected in 2014 to a Democratic stronghold covering the popular area of Philadelphia. He is seeking re-election in 2016.
At the lunch in the Shelbourne Hotel, Mr Boyle described Ireland as "a second home" and spoke of the importance of "maintaining the strength of the economic ties between Ireland and the United States".
He was presented with a Certificate of Irish Heritage in recognition of his Irish descent.
