Online help for teens at risk of eating disorder

A NEW online therapy programme for teenagers with low self-esteem will hopefully prevent them from developing eating disorders.

The Department of Health estimates 200,000 people in Ireland may be affected by eating disorders, which kill 80 sufferers each year.

Bodywhys, the Eating Disorder Association of Ireland, has launched SeeMySelf, an online programme it hopes will improve how young people see themselves. The programme is divided into modules and is done at the young person's own pace, taking around eight weeks.

Bodywhys chief Jacinta Hastings said: "Programmes such as this should become a necessary and normal part of the education of our young people."
