One-man play selected for leading event in US

A ONE-man play created to entertain Irish children has been selected for a prestigious international theatre event.

'The Girl Who Forgot to Sing Badly' will be performed in the United States during a four-day showcase of the best work for young audiences.

Actor Louis Lovett plays a dozen different characters during the play, which follows a young girl on an epic adventure, as she attempts to rescue her parents and everyone in her city from disaster.

The piece is among 20 productions chosen from around the world by a panel of judges to be showcased at the IPAY -- International Performing Arts for Youth event -- in Texas next week.

Written by Finegan Kruckemeyer, the play is co-produced by The Ark cultural centre and Theatre Lovett, where the actor is an artistic director.

Meanwhile, director Ciaran Foy has scored with his psychological horror debut 'Citadel' after it was selected to have its world premiere as part of the Midnighters section at the international film festival South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, in March.
