MORE than one million property owners will receive letters over the coming weeks, setting out payment options for the local property tax.
The Revenue Commissioners said last night it would soon provide payment options for 2014, when a full year's tax will fall due.
Weekend reports said that hundreds of thousands of homeowners would be sent letters, most of whom paid the tax in one payment.
Some 84pc of the 1.59 million property owners who paid – or more than 1.3 million – paid with a credit or debit card, or in one instalment through their bank.
"We will be issuing letters later in the week about choosing your payment option for 2014," a Revenue spokeswoman said.
"We've our communications campaign planned and we'll be putting out full information during the week."
She added that the letters were not based around compliance.
Property owners can avail of a number of payment options, including at source through deductions from their salary, pensions or state payments, or by cash through An Post, Payzone or Omnivend.
